Capcom removed Enigma from Resident Evil 4 Remake
On 3 March 2026 Capcom patched the PC version of Resident Evil 4 Remake and removed Enigma. The protection disappeared from the Steam page. What remained was ordinary SteamStub.
A month of complaints had a target. Digital Foundry had already shown that the scheme sat on the CPU and cut frames, and REFramework could not start mods while it was there. Capcom did not restore Denuvo. Both extra layers are gone.
The executable grew by 140 megabytes. That is not restored content. Enigma had been compressing the exe. The patch does not change Leon, Ashley, or Separate Ways. It gives the PC version its mod compatibility back.
