Patch 2.8.0 for Dawn of War — Definitive Edition was shaped with the players

On 28 April 2026, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War — Definitive Edition received update 2.8.0. Relic put multiplayer balance in front of the community for the first time: the patch tests how far players can steer a classic RTS, rather than handing down a locked list of numbers.

Nine factions leave no clean answer, and the studio says so. Version 2.8.0 is not presented as a finished equilibrium. It sets a direction, and a run of similar updates is planned across 2026.

Ranked modes are stricter about mods and third-party tools that strip the fog of war. Penalties step up: 48 hours, then a week, then a ban with no end date. The ladder works as warnings, not an instant removal on the first hit.

Later changes are meant to follow player feedback instead of one “final” balance pass. In a strategy game where map information decides fights, Relic singled out fairness in ranked matches.
