Broche warns that Sandfall’s next game will divide players
On 15 September 2026, in a Konbini interview, Guillaume Broche described how Sandfall Interactive is approaching the next game. Multi-million sales of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and the critical praise are not pushing the studio into a safe sequel.
He is ready for the new project to be another experiment, including one that fails. It may miss both players of the first game and everyone else. The first game, Broche reminds, was made for the team itself rather than for a chosen audience, and he sees that as the reason it worked. The conversation is on YouTube.
He would rather keep the extra money and attention away from a swollen staff. Constraints, he says, are what surface the design ideas. The studio will stay compact and keep the right to take a risk, with a share of madness in the mechanics. The success of Expedition 33 only makes that road calmer.
The team has already explained the name. Clair Obscur is the franchise, and Expedition 33 is one story inside it. The next game can be a new plot in the same world, rather than a direct continuation of the thirty-third expedition.
