Matt Searcy says the studio is proud E-Day stays an Xbox game
The Coalition creative director Matt Searcy commented on Gears of War: E-Day staying exclusive. He said the series is woven into Xbox’s history, and the studio is proud to carry it and to sit among the platform’s flagship games again.
After Gears of War: Reloaded reached PlayStation 5 in 2025, many expected the next entries on Sony’s console as well. At the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Microsoft said the opposite: E-Day is only on Xbox Series X|S and PC. The company later said it does not plan to put new Xbox exclusives on rival consoles.
Searcy adds that the platform choice did not change the team’s job, which was to make a strong Gears game and show what the series can do technically. Premium Edition early access opened on 1 October, and the full release is 6 October. The story returns to Emergence Day, Marcus Fenix, and Dom Santiago.
