A PS5 emulator reaches the GTA V prologue on PC

A modified build of the KyTyPS5 emulator has taken the console version of Grand Theft Auto V on PC past the opening menu. A month ago the project stalled before gameplay. In the new run it reaches the prologue, and controls and physics already respond.

On a Ryzen 9 9950X3D with a Radeon RX 7900 XT the frame rate sat roughly between 40 and 60, with dips in busy scenes. That is a modest number on hardware this strong, and it shows how much the emulation itself still costs.

People are also arguing about the point of the test. The 2013 original has run on PC for years at high settings with frames to spare, even on modest machines, so a playable prologue of an old engine promises nothing for Ghost of Yotei or Marvel's Wolverine. The other date is what keeps the interest up: Rockstar usually ships a PC version of its big games later than the consoles, and people are already guessing whether a console build of the sixth game could appear in an emulator before the stores. There is a separate worry that the noise around these runs could push the studio toward a constant online check, even in the next game's single-player campaign.
