Rumor: Rockstar is banning modified PS4s in GTA Online

After talk of a modified PlayStation 4 firmware that skips the normal PSN sign-in, Sony shipped a mandatory update, 14.00. Without it, GTA Online multiplayer on that console no longer connects. Players link the window to the older system letting cheat software into sessions.

A rumor is running in parallel that Rockstar has started hard bans tied to the hardware. The retellings say the targets are owners of modified PS4s who were bringing advantages into online sessions through third-party menus. The studio has made no official statement, so the claim that this hits everyone in that group should be treated skeptically.

For a normal console the practical point is simpler than the rumor: getting back into GTA Online on PS4 requires firmware 14.00. How unofficial software is installed, and what it contains, is outside this story.
