Permafrost story trailer follows engineer Grach into endless winter

On 27 September 2026 SpaceRocket Games released a story trailer for Permafrost, a realistic open-world survival game set in the near future. A chain of disasters ends with the Moon's destruction, and the planet is left in a winter with no end date. The emphasis is slow exploration rather than constant firefights.

The lead is an engineer named Grach. He can repair machines and put up shelters, but he has almost no experience surviving in the wild. A radio signal from a long-lost friend sends him through snow-covered ruins. The game is built for solo play or a squad of up to four: frozen cities and wilderness, hunting, gathering, crafting, a network of shelters, and ground held by different factions.

The studio frames it as survival without the usual genre habits and without nonstop shooting. In tone they place it near The Long Dark and Frostpunk, with a more personal story. Cold touches almost everything, from whether you can keep walking to whether you live through a storm. Frostbite and a creeping chill shape every trip, and the developers say there is no real way to hide from the cold. Preparation, shelter, and timing decide the outcome.

Progress comes from repair. Abandoned shelters are brought back, broken vehicles are fixed, and fragile pre-war machines are restarted so the route can push deeper into the ice. A dog pulled from the ruins travels with Grach. The dog scouts the path, warns of danger, helps carry supplies, and, in the developers' words, keeps a lone survivor from losing their mind.
