671 unused lines turned up on the remake's PS5 disc
Modder Keff0 found more than thirty minutes of recorded dialogue on the PS5 disc of Resident Evil 4 Remake that never shipped: 671 lines for Leon, Luis, Ashley, and the Merchant. Those recordings are not on PC.
One Merchant line points straight at Resident Evil Village. Paraphrased, he recognizes a customer who has already been around villages and calls the Duke a man with promise. In Village the Duke himself says "What're ya buyin'?" and treats it as an old friend's phrase. The files suggest the link was planned from both sides, and the fourth remake never used it.
Unused death animations for the Merchant are in there too. Save data implies he could be killed, after which the shop stayed closed for the rest of the run. That would have put the remake closer to the original, where the merchant is not immortal.
Capcom has not said why the Duke link and the killable shopkeeper were cut. The find was noted on X.
