Crimson Desert has more than 150,000 reviews on Steam, and the overall rating stays “very positive.” The story is still criticized regularly.

The tale of the mercenary Kliff and the attempt to restore a faction’s honor is called weaker than the open world: a set of events without deep logic, and some missions that feel samey. Even critical reviews often stay positive because of the scale, the mechanics and the fights.

Pearl Abyss has said before that the story got less attention than planned and that gameplay was polished instead. The current scores have not collapsed over that.
