Cyberpunk 2077 sales reached 40 million copies
More than five years after release, Cyberpunk 2077 passed 40 million copies sold. After a rough start, large updates carried the game, and Night City kept gaining players instead of going dark.
Joint chief executive Michał Nowakowski tied the number not to a one-off spike but to long interest. In his words, 40 million shows the strength of the game and that CD Projekt is best at stories players return to for years.
The company is also pulling the franchise beyond the RPG. The nearest such project is the animated Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, meant to bring a new audience into the same universe.
For the studio this is no longer an apology for the 2020 launch. It is a separate commercial result of support.
