IGN ranked the Resident Evil 4 remake second in the series

IGN rebuilt its Resident Evil top ten after Requiem shipped. A group of writers with different tastes voted, weighing both influence on the genre and whether a game is still worth replaying.

The 2023 remake took second place, directly behind the 2005 original. Then come the 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake, the 2002 remake of the first game, 1998's Resident Evil 2, Requiem, Village, Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and the 1996 original.

Requiem stayed sixth despite its scores and sales. The editors' reason for first place is plain: that Resident Evil 4 set the action template that the genre, and later the Leon-and-Ashley remake, pushed off from.

Second in this list is a comparison, not a consolation prize. IGN puts the remake above both Village and the new numbered game, and below the game it retells.
