The makers of Mewgenics and Iron Lung oppose AI in concept art
Tyler Glaiel, co-author of Mewgenics, and David Szymanski, maker of Iron Lung, answered the generative images in Crimson Desert. By then more than three million copies had sold in five days, and Pearl Abyss had announced an audit of all visual materials.
Glaiel says concept art is the worst place for such a tool: that is where the most original work is needed, and he does not want art decisions led by managers without the skill. Szymanski is not against tools in general, but he refuses to take part in what he considers pointless, and he asks that the useful be separated from the foolish.
Both agree automation can help elsewhere, and that the distinctiveness of concept art stays with artists. This is their position, not a new studio comment.
