The Baldur’s Gate 3 publisher sees Crimson Desert as a kit of borrowed mechanics
Michael Douse, publishing director for Baldur’s Gate 3, wrote that Crimson Desert is assembled from familiar parts: many mechanics from other games at once, to catch a wide audience. That, he says, does not make the project bad. It is still interesting to play.
He lists the activities: bounties, gathering, trade, puzzles, sumo and mechanized gear. Such a kit, he thinks, will show up more often, because proven mechanics lower risk for both premium games and free-to-play ones. The studio, he writes, still adds its own pieces.
Douse hopes for a second wave of interest, like Dragon’s Dogma after Dark Arisen. This is another publisher’s opinion, not a scored review.
