Recent Steam reviews hit the remake over the new protection
By 6 February, Resident Evil 4 Remake on Steam had picked up a wave of fresh negative reviews. The reason was the patch that put Enigma in place of Denuvo and, players said, cut PC performance.
A video from ItalicMaze on a Ryzen 5 5600 and a Radeon RX 7600 showed roughly half the previous frame rate. Other reports were milder but pointed the same way: Steam Deck losses were estimated at 20–30%. Separate posts said video-memory use had climbed.
The recent-review filter on the store page was full of protection complaints. Capcom had not said in public whether it would roll the change back. For a game usually praised on PC, the new score briefly split away from the older overall rating.
Titles this old usually lose Denuvo outright. This swap kept the old DRM complaints and added a new hit to the frame rate.
