Newzoo: Black Flag Resynced lands near the top of July's revenue charts
July's Newzoo charts, written up by GamesIndustry.biz on 8 September, show remakes and rereleases pulling a lot of the month's revenue. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, the first remake in that franchise, placed second on PC and fourth on consoles. The charts cover the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain and Italy. On the year-to-date list of highest-grossing new games, the remake was ninth.
Newzoo analyst Mert Şahin put the point shortly: established games can still have commercial room left. A remake pairs a familiar base with a real update, so it reaches older fans and people for whom the original was out of reach. Halo: Campaign Evolved sat at 20th on that same year-to-date list of new games.
The month also showed the other approach. A shadow drop of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 put them sixth and first in console revenue. On PC, Palworld's exit from early access landed it fifth, and 19th among the year's highest-grossing new games. Newzoo notes that the game has a single price and neither microtransactions nor paid expansions, so July's money came mostly from new buyers.
On console monthly active users, GTA 5 rose two places. Newzoo ties that to GTA 6 pre-orders and to The Kortz Centre Heist in GTA Online. The chart write-up.
