CD Projekt will take Ross's VR mod back if it is free
Jan Rosner of CD Projekt Red explained the complaint against Luke Ross's mod. The studio filed a DMCA notice because Cyberpunk VR was available only to paying Patreon subscribers. Fan-content rules forbid monetizing the company's intellectual property without direct permission or a separate agreement.
The week before, Ross was offered a choice: open the mod to everyone and keep voluntary donations, or remove it. Rosner also wrote that the studio likes work of this kind and would be glad to see the mod return for free.
Making money from the company's world, in any form, still needs CD Projekt Red's consent. The studio does support mods, as long as they stay an exchange between players rather than a subscription.
That gives the January dispute an official fork. The question is no longer whether the lawyers noticed the mod. It is whether the author will accept a free release.
