Sasko says faith and technology were built into the plot on purpose
Paweł Sasko replied to players who noticed Cyberpunk 2077 setting faith, culture, and progress against each other. He said the idea of sacrum versus profanum — the sacred against the worldly — was not decoration. It was a planned spine of the story. Game director Adam Badowski pushed the team to explore it.
The tension is between technology that promises to leave the body behind and the emptiness around it. Sasko named two quests. In Losing My Religion, monks' vows forbid implants, and Maelstrom forcibly modifies one of them. In Sinnerman, Joshua Stephenson's braindance pushes into guilt, redemption, and vigilante justice.
He called it a human dance between the spiritual and the technical. Neon and gunfights stay in front, but these threads explain why the city feels like more than a chrome storefront.
For the team it was a narrative plan, not a set of secrets fans happened to find years later.
