Sensor Tower says Requiem made Capcom Japan’s top publisher
Sensor Tower says Resident Evil Requiem was the main driver of Japan’s PlayStation and PC market in the first half of 2026. That sector grew 13%, to 21 million copies sold, and Capcom led publishers on those platforms in the region.
The sharpest number was the Steam launch: 2.6 million copies in the first month. Analysts read that as proof Steam is now a primary door to a global audience for Japanese premium hits, not a side door next to consoles. Average playtime on Steam reached 25 hours, a franchise record for engagement.
The store page went up 264 days before release and built wishlists in the United States, China, Europe and Japan. By July, worldwide shipments of Requiem had passed 8 million copies. Sensor Tower ties Capcom’s half-year growth to more than this one horror: the science-fiction action game Pragmata and steady sales of the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes sat alongside it.
