Janisse and Koch explain how Black Flag Resynced was rebuilt
On Echoes of History, the podcast Ubisoft makes with History Hit, host Matt Lewis talks with narrative director Joel Janisse and level design director Julien Koch. The episode on the Assassin's Creed channel is titled Rebuilding The Golden Age Of Piracy.
The talk is about raising the West Indies again on the current Anvil engine and bringing Edward Kenway and Blackbeard back. The chapter list shows the direct questions: whether assets from the 2013 game were reused, how the original's spirit survived the new technology, which historical finds were added, and why the project is called Resynced.
The reported conversation then moves to how story and mission layout fit together, how production in 2013 compares with 2026, favorite missions and places, a Jackdaw crew drawn from archival people, and the choice to cut the long modern-day Abstergo stretches. Combat is described as an attempt to build the feel of a real pirate fight. The episode also looks further out, at which other older Ubisoft games might someday return under the Resynced name.
