The Cyberpunk film will tell a new story, not V's plot

In an interview with PAP Biznes, Michał Nowakowski confirmed that the live-action film in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe will not transfer the game's plot one to one. The studio wants a story in the same world, not an adaptation of V's path. That leaves room to show other sides of Night City without being tied to familiar scenes.

The picture is being made with Paramount, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing. There is no cast or schedule, so it is unknown whether familiar characters will appear. The approach resembles Edgerunners: the same universe and the same streets, a separate plot. The anime's second season arrives on Netflix on 20 October 2026.

In parallel the studio is making the next Cyberpunk game and Project Hadar, its first work in a fully original universe. In that queue the film is a way to extend the city without repeating V and Johnny.

Nowakowski's wording is short: the world yes, the game's plot no.
