The RE4 remake sold more than five million copies in a year

Stephen Totilo at Game File looked at the year from mid-2025 to mid-2026: six Resident Evil games each sold more than 3 million copies. The fourth remake led, with more than 5 million across those twelve months.

Village sold 3.6 million, Resident Evil 7 sold 3 million, and the second and third remakes about 4 million each. Older editions move differently. Last-gen Resident Evil 6 on PS4 and Xbox One passed 500,000, while the first-generation Switch versions of Resident Evil 4 and 6, plus the Revelations re-release, stayed under 300,000. Those are the old ports, not the October Switch 2 release.

In the same roundup Totilo notes that Capcom is preparing a Code Veronica remake for the next fiscal year, and that Zach Cregger's film had by then become the highest-rated video game movie on Rotten Tomatoes. For the Leon remake the sales line is still the point: five million in a year for a game that had turned three.
