CD Projekt demanded the removal of Luke Ross's paid VR mod

Cyberpunk 2077 has no official headset support, and the studio has not promised one. Its effort has gone into the sequel and other projects. Luke Ross filled that gap with a VR mod, but he offered it only to Patreon subscribers.

CD Projekt Red's lawyers sent a DMCA notice and the mod came down. The company treated paid access to an unofficial modification, without permission, as unacceptable. Ross said talks with the legal team and business development did not produce a compromise.

He argues that his software is an image layer, not a rebuild of the game from the studio's source, and that a purchased copy is still required. The studio did not accept that. CD Projekt Red has not announced a VR mode of its own.

The fight is not about whether Night City belongs in a headset. It is about charging money for someone else's world. The studio's line is firm: fan work without a separate deal has to stay free.
