Harada on why Miyazaki almost never gives interviews
Katsuhiro Harada, who leads the Tekken series, explained why Hidetaka Miyazaki almost never gives interviews. He says the creator of Dark Souls and Elden Ring genuinely believes that many industry veterans understand games better than he does.
Harada recalled the VR project Summer Lesson. While the other guests tried the game and talked about how it felt, Miyazaki stared at the screen in silence. Asked what he was thinking, he said he was already picturing how he would make a game like that in his own way.
That was when Harada saw a colleague who does not relax inside someone else's project, but immediately takes it apart. He also does not treat the success of Dark Souls as an accident: it was years of work at FromSoftware, not a sudden breakthrough from one release.
Harada answered Miyazaki's modesty with a joke. If even the creator of Elden Ring thinks he does not know enough about games, everyone else who makes them might as well stay quiet.
