Tomaszkiewicz praises Crimson Desert for systems, not the story
Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, former development lead of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, wrote that the strong feelings in Crimson Desert do not come from the story. Pearl Abyss’s bet is exploration, systems and freedom. Without a loud story focus, he says, the game still pulls you in.
He looks at current releases not only as narrative but as how the world and the loop are built. In this project he was caught by the systems and the different ways to touch the world. He compares the industry to the variety of 1990s RPGs, when mechanics diverged sharply.
Tomaszkiewicz is now leading The Blood of Dawnwalker and says the studio wants projects that stand apart, not ones that repeat a formula. This is another game author’s view.
