The Shadows finale left Yasuke and Naoe with plans ahead

Black Tides was meant to close the adventures of Yasuke and Naoe ahead of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. Players found an open ending instead of a full stop.

In the last conversation the pair state what they intend to do next, make a decision, and name a faction that matters to the whole series. The fan account Zephryss reads that as a deliberate loose end. Talk followed about another expansion, and about a continuation of Shadows.

On an archived broadcast for the game's anniversary, associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois pointed at Assassin's Creed Mirage, which received more content two years after release. On the future of Shadows and its characters, he said anything is possible.

A full sequel still looks unlikely. Outside the Ezio trilogy, the series rarely keeps the same leads for more than one game. A guest appearance fits the usual pattern better, the way Kassandra from Odyssey showed up in a Valhalla expansion. Details in Black Tides also hint at other well-known assassins, so a crossover is not ruled out.
