Funcom is rebuilding Dune: Awakening’s balance for solo play
On 28 August 2026 Funcom explained how it is preparing the solo mode in Dune: Awakening for 22 September, the console launch day.
Chief creative director Joel Bylos said that, with a strong story already in place, folding solo play into the game was not the hard part. Most of the work went into combat, difficulty, and progression, so a player would not suddenly need a group just to keep going.
He thinks the story suits playing alone. Bylos called it the best story among survival games that exist now. Events follow an alternate line of the Dune universe, so turns that readers of Frank Herbert know play out differently here.
Solo mode removes the need to keep playing alongside other people. The main plot and the progression system stay in place.
