Solo Dune: Awakening stays survival, not a cinematic adventure

On 6 September 2026 Funcom set expectations for the solo mode in Dune: Awakening. It is a way to play the game alone, not a linear story in the vein of The Last of Us: survival stays at the center.

Chief creative director Joel Bylos said people who want a strong survival game they can play alone should be fine with it. Anyone expecting The Last of Us, he said, is looking in the wrong place.

Building the mode was difficult. The open world, with several maps, was made for a permanent online life, and Funcom had to adapt it to local play, retune combat and resource gathering, and change how some systems work.

Solo gives the player more control over the trip across Arrakis, but Dune: Awakening remains a survival game. The mode ships in September with the console version.
