Broche hopes prompt-built AI games turn out poor

On 5 July 2026, on Video Game Club, Broche talked about generative AI in development. He expects algorithms to reach the point of automating the grind, and that worries him.

He also wants machine-assembled games to come out bad. A real grasp of game design, he says, is not something a machine has. The joy for him is carrying an idea through himself. Generation that spits out a finished project takes that joy away.

He sketches the edge in one line. Someday a game might arrive in five seconds from a text prompt, and at that moment the person is no longer making anything. He expects the argument over hand work beside a fast pipeline to last.
