An Expedition 33 port to Switch 2 depends on console power
On 28 July 2026 Sandfall Interactive told Automaton that interest in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on Nintendo Switch 2 is real, and the port looks like heavy engineering.
Technical director Tom Guillermin points at performance. The game was built to look expensive, and Switch 2 is weaker than PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. For a studio this size that factor decides a lot.
Guillaume Broche confirmed the interest and cooled the calendar at once: there are no plans ready to discuss. Some Unreal Engine 5 technology is not supported on Nintendo’s console yet. Lead character artist Alan Reynaud is watching Lumen Lite in Unreal Engine 5.8, a lighter form of global illumination, but adopting it takes time, and the decision waits until the engine matures.
The game is out on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A Switch 2 version has not been announced. The team leaves the door open if the technology can be made to fit.
