Alinea estimates about 120,000 Steam copies of E-Day
Alinea Analytics estimates that Gears of War: E-Day has sold about 120,000 copies on Steam, for roughly $7 million. Microsoft and Valve have not published official figures, so this is an analyst estimate.
By their count, fewer than 20,000 of those copies moved in the last six weeks, which means most purchases came before the game unlocked. The pre-release pace looks soft, with a small pickup in the latest days.
Alinea uses other launches as scale. Call of Duty reached about 450,000 Steam copies before release, though Gears is a narrower series. Over a comparable pre-launch window, E-Day is already more than double Halo: Campaign Evolved. It is far behind WARDOGS, which had about 567,000 Steam copies at a similar point and roughly three times the revenue.
The firm treats one million Steam copies of E-Day before the end of the year as a hard target. On Xbox, Game Pass will absorb part of the audience, and the roughly $30 early-access fee is extra revenue whose size is still unclear. Analysts also say dropping a PlayStation version narrowed the market, while allowing that a port could still appear later. Microsoft has announced no such plan.
