Weekend DDoS attacks cut players off from E-Day’s campaign too
Over the weekend before 12 October, Gears of War: E-Day’s servers failed badly enough that players lost both online modes and the story. The first complaints were about matchmaking that never finished. Then people were dropped mid-fight, and signing back in hit errors.
The campaign stopped as well. The shooter demands a constant connection, so the story of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago could not be started during those hours.
The studio’s community account confirmed heavy DDoS attacks. The technical teams are mitigating them and asking players to wait: the situation is still being handled.
The explanation did not settle everyone. Players argue that the single-player story should run without an internet connection, so an attack on the servers would not lock a game they already bought. The studio has not said whether a full offline mode, one that would survive an outage like this, is coming.
