Mike Crump says the next Gears will not take seven years

The Coalition studio head Mike Crump told the BBC that the next Gears of War will not take nearly the seven years that went into E-Day. He called the current game a strong base for later projects.

The studio is not saying what the follow-up is. It is unclear whether they will close the Gears 5 cliffhanger or go back into the past for another prequel. After release the team stays on E-Day, which will get seasonal content.

Crump also spoke about possible further cuts at Microsoft. E-Day’s success does not shield the studio from Xbox’s restructuring. He said the team is holding to what it can control, which is the game itself. The Coalition’s leadership has worked together for more than twenty years, and he treats that continuity as a reserve. There are still no details on the next project.
