Paddy Meyer says Microsoft kept the voice he recorded for Vraak

Creature voice actor and vocalist Paddy Meyer has accused The Coalition and Microsoft of keeping his Gears of War: E-Day recordings and being free to run them through generative models. For months he built the voice of the main antagonist, Vraak: sessions of up to six hours in Toronto and London, with the growls, groans, and lines of the Locust leader.

The job ended in late February 2025. His agency received a termination email four days before the next session. Meyer says lawyers told him the company had bought the source recordings for a modest fee and locked in the right to use them anywhere. On the Game Chat podcast he said those sounds could surface in any Microsoft game, and that it would be nearly impossible to prove a model had not simply produced them.

He ties the decision to cost-cutting and puts the shooter’s budget near $500 million. That figure is his claim, not a studio filing. After he left, the role formally went to a double, but he says the original roars are still in the debut trailer and in multiplayer builds.

He also says attempts to get a credit ran into blocked social accounts, his name coming off the IMDb entry, and warnings from London lawyers about a non-disclosure agreement. So far this is his account of the dispute.
