Fan port of GTA V, version 1.2, is running on iPhone
An enthusiast named kevinerikjs, also Kevin Erik, has shown version 1.2 of a fan port of Grand Theft Auto V for iPhone. The project is called 5-Star Port. The point of the update is that the story and free roam can run on the phone itself, without a Mac sitting next to it. The build rests on a web version of the game that leaked earlier, and it draws frames through Metal on 64-bit ARM. It has no official connection to Rockstar.
The author is not distributing the game's files. He says outright that he will not post a complete package of the assets: the moment they are out in the open, the publisher will come after them. Take-Two already guards that property hard. The port includes the campaign with saves, and free roam. The touch controls imitate a gamepad, with aim assist, a gyroscope and steering by tilt, plus ordinary Bluetooth controllers.
The memory floor is a phone with 6 GB. The list includes the iPhone 12 Pro, the iPhone 13 Pro and any model in the 14 line and newer, on iOS 17. The game data is about 21 GB, and the idea is to play without a constant network connection. Speed is capped by the operating system. Under free signing the memory ceiling is about 3,000 MB, and an iPhone 13 Pro Max on the lighter presets does roughly 25 to 31 frames per second. Apple's paid developer account, $99 a year, raises the ceiling to about 4,000 MB and opens a higher preset with a longer draw distance. How the installer is built is not in this note. That would be a recipe, not news about the port.
A second independent project, Muguet, by c22dev, is moving alongside it. It is written in Rust, aims first at macOS, and is trying an experimental networked mode.
