Press scores for Hellraiser: Revival run from 45 to 90

On launch day, 8 October 2026, Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival sat at 69 on Metacritic, tagged Mixed or Average. The card attached to the roundup counted 30 critic reviews. It is the first full game in the Hellraiser line, and the scores split immediately. Some reviews called it successful and faithful. Others called it familiar in the wrong way, and disappointing.

Console Creatures gave it 90 out of 100 and said it should satisfy both franchise fans and survival-horror players, because it does not sand the material down. The reviewer singled out the cultists' underground lair and a sex-club scene. Game Rant called Revival the most faithful entry since the 1990s, and argued that sex and blood land when they are tied to a character's motive and to the plot, not only to shock.

Checkpoint Gaming scored it 80 out of 100 and warned that the imagery is heavy. Get through that, the review said, and there is a solid horror game underneath. PlayStation Universe stopped at 70. Its strongest praise was for the linear stretches, where the scares have room to work. Exploration sections looked padded, and the enemy AI looked too simple to push back.

Game Informer gave it 45 out of 100. The reviewer wrote of being angry by the ending: glitches and holes in the picture and the sound run through the whole game, and the credits brought irritation plus relief that it was over. The piece compared the experience to having to sit through Pinhead's designs.

Fans who want extreme body horror, references and Doug Bradley's return still have a reason to look. Anyone after a polished horror in the Resident Evil sense may bounce off the combat, the thin resources and a design that feels second-hand.
