Update 42.1 tests voice partner Ella and rewrites the blue zone
PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS update 42.1 arrived on 17 June 2026, and Krafton used it for a short experiment with a voice partner. The mode Game with a Partner ran on PC until 1 July. Ella dropped with you as a duo on Sanhok, talked back, helped in fights, and stayed for the whole match. It needed an NVIDIA card at least as strong as an RTX 2080 Ti or an RTX 3060.
Smoke stopped being a reliable wall. An explosion, a vehicle crash, and some other effects blow the cloud apart for a while, so the cover has to be thrown again.
The blue zone changed with it. Matches run shorter, the safe areas were resized, and damage outside the circle now builds from how long you stay out there rather than from how far you stand from the edge. Healing items weigh less and apply faster. The SLR gained bullet speed and easier control at long range.
Ranked season 42 lasts three months and is framed as a warm-up for a larger rating overhaul. Strings of high finishes add extra points, so surviving deeper into the match matters more. If the Ella test lands, similar AI partners could come back in later patches.
