Tom Holland says Brand New Day fights draw on Insomniac games

The makers of Spider-Man: Brand New Day say they staged the fights with Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man games in mind. Tom Holland, who plays Peter Parker, singled out the in-game finishers: those moves, he said, are what made the film's brawls more spectacular.

In an IGN interview he said he still plays the series. The night before the premiere he was too wired to sleep and spent the time in the game.

Holland explained that many of the closing blows in Brand New Day grew out of Insomniac's showy finishers. Director Destin Daniel Cretton backed that up. The stunt team and the action crew are fans themselves: they brought screenshots into meetings and worked out how to put those moves on live actors.

The film tries to carry over the same acrobatics that make the games recognizable. By then the Brand New Day suit was already in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, so some of the movie's scenes can be replayed in the game.
