A Tokyo Game Show hands-on covers the STAR WARS: Galactic Racer campaign
At Tokyo Game Show 2026, Automaton played STAR WARS: Galactic Racer and interviewed Fuse Games' Matt Webster and Kieran Crimmins. The game ships on 6 October for PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store, and for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The campaign is set after the Empire falls. Champion Kestar Bool has taken over the Galactic League, and its founder, the Besalisk Darius Pax, hires the loner Shade to take it back. The prologue runs from a cutscene into a tutorial, character setup, and the first race without a hard break. You try a landspeeder, a speeder bike, and a skim speeder. Shade's clothes, helmet, and voice can be changed, then you pick a difficulty and are thrown straight at Bool, who trash-talks over the radio.
Almost nothing is spelled out. The engine starts with a QTE and a rev, there is no minimap, two hits are survivable, and the third ends the race. You begin with a single league token. After each race you take one of three random rewards, and a season branches through events, races, and an Eliminator trial. A wipe does not erase everything: new machines, cosmetics, and about 200 parts still unlock. Before a season you choose one of 14 racers.
The paddock is full of creatures and droids, including R2 units. There is no Force and no lightsaber. Webster and Crimmins said the feel of the racing came from their work on Burnout, Need for Speed, and Star Wars Battlefront II, from SEGA and Nintendo arcade racers, and from Hades, Returnal, and Slay the Spire: decisions and what they cost come first.
