Patch 2.8 and The Surgeon and Baibars are out for Crusader

On 4 August 2026 Firefly Studios released summer update 2.8 for Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition and, the same day, the paid add-on The Surgeon and Baibars. The add-on has two computer lords and a new Sands of Time trail, Trail of the Vulture. The Surgeon sits inside enormous castles crowded with towers and holds his strike until the attacker is worn down. Sultan Baibars pushes the other way: sturdy, plain fortresses and attack waves that do not let up.

The free half adds the ten-mission co-op trail Dance of the Scorpions and three maps. Lush Crossover splits the field with an oasis and puts the rivals in opposite corners. Bypass seats five players so the starting spot decides the routes of attack. River of Life is a free-build map with highlands, marsh, and desert.

Three more free-build maps sit beside that pack: Coast Life, about a fishing village after a flood; the harsh island Insular Hope; and Fields and Forges, timber on one shore and iron and stone on the other. The sandbox gains the scenarios Rockhold and Island Living. A control option changes how squads move: one click sends units at their own pace, and a double click makes the group keep to its slowest member. Definitive Edition reached PC on 15 July 2025 as a rebuilt version of the 2002 strategy. While the studio keeps adding to Crusader, it is also preparing the fourth main game in the series.
