Tempest Rising gets a free map editor

On 8 July 2026 Tempest Rising received a large update and, with it, the free Tempest Rising — Map Editor add-on. Slipgate Ironworks built the tool with 3D Realms, Knights Peak, and Saber Interactive on Unreal Engine 5.4.4. It is for multiplayer maps and for solo skirmishes against the AI. Documentation and two sample maps ship with it. Finished levels go to the Steam Workshop, and other players can load a shared map without installing the editor.

Production was reworked in the same patch. When several buildings of one type are up, unit and structure orders are split evenly across them. Spectators now get a readout of credits earned, units built and lost, the production queue, and upgrades already active. The global queue can be paused, map vetoes in matchmaking can be reset, and the chosen game speed survives a save load.

The patch started a new competitive season and cleared the ranked tables. Balance changes hit the Global Defense Force and the Tempest Dynasty: build time and cost, vehicle and infantry health, and damage. Resources on Tempest fields regenerate 10% faster, so long matches do not stall.

For the TactiCon festival on 9 July 2026 the studio promised a new demo. It will be the first time solo story missions for the third faction, Veti, are playable. Until then Veti had only been in the public multiplayer beta. The Steam note is here: map editor update. The tool itself: Tempest Rising — Map Editor.
