A Valor Mortis overview trailer explains combat, weapons, and growth

One More Level has put out an overview trailer for Valor Mortis, narrated by William Dowsett in James Alexander's voice. It walks through the stamina bar, the split between light and heavy attacks, parries and counters, and stretches of levels that had not been shown before.

Beside William's pistol, the reel adds a claymore — a slow two-handed sword with a very heavy hit — and a musket, a two-handed firearm with more range and more force. The studio's point is practical: the right weapon depends on the enemy in front of you.

Transmutations sit in the left hand. Fire sets enemies alight, Shield soaks a hit and can throw out a shockwave, and Grapple latches onto points and pulls William across the level. Catalysts are spent at lanterns on health, stamina, and parry strength; when he dies they stay where he fell, and he can pick them up again. Ambers found in the world are used, as his level rises, to tune a build toward a preferred style.

The short character notes call William a young Englishman who lost faith in the monarchy and joined Napoleon for the idea of a united Europe. He wakes on a field of ash with almost no memory and has to decide whether to trust people who claim they used to fight beside him. Vincent Cassel voices Napoleon: victory at Waterloo opened the road east, but the army then met resistance that is no longer merely human, and William hears the emperor's voice in his own head. Jennifer English's Shrike is a rebel in occupied Eastern Europe, stronger than an ordinary soldier; partway through, her voice joins Napoleon's inside William's head.

The studio is not planning separate difficulty levels. The game is built around one challenge, though later changes are not ruled out. New Game+ is not promised at launch, but the team has left the door open for it in future updates. This is One More Level's first universe of its own after Ghostrunner, and they say they are not walking away from it. Launch is 13 October on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass, digital and physical, at a modest price.
