Nick Apostolides picked "Hasta luego" as Leon's best line

Polygon's list of 100 greatest game quotes put Leon's Resident Evil 4 line first: "Where's everyone going? Bingo?" The editors say the line, coming after the most tense moment, is the mix of horror and joke that Capcom gets praised for.

Nick Apostolides, Leon's voice in the remake, picked a different line in the same conversation. His favorite is "Hasta luego!", which is in both the 2005 original and the remake. He hears the Terminator's "Hasta la vista, baby" in it. As a kid that sounded like the peak of cool, and twenty years later he got to say it as Leon.

Polygon did not shortlist the plain Spanish goodbye Leon throws out while blowing up a barrel of enemies. Apostolides thinks quips like that keep the character alive instead of turning him into a silent shooter.

The series had to be trimmed to fit the hundred. Otherwise Resident Evil would have taken too many slots. The newsroom argument and the actor's answer show that the original and the remake share a stock of lines, and that the writers and Leon's voice do not love the same one.
