Control Resonant’s director explains the lack of yellow paint
Mikael Kasurinen, director of Control Resonant, told the Dropping Frames podcast that Remedy deliberately does not mark ledges, doors, and chests with yellow paint. Lighting and objects already in the scene do the pointing, not bright stickers.
He wants players to feel they worked it out themselves. If a scene plainly says “go here,” someone else already chose. Kasurinen compared that to the gas trail in Marvel’s Wolverine and called the trick too obvious.
He accepts that the opening of Resonant may leave some people unsure where to walk, and he does not treat that as a failure. He would rather players hesitate, double back, and test another route than watch the game from the sidelines. The feeling he wants, he said, is finding the way yourself — closer to life than to a signpost.
The game is out on PC and consoles. It is a larger, more open follow-up to the 2019 Control, and the navigation rule did not change with the scale: no yellow paint, and trust that the player will look.
