Digital Foundry confirmed the remake's new protection costs frames
Digital Foundry compared the current Steam build of Resident Evil 4 Remake with the build from before the protection change. The bench was a Ryzen 5 3600 and an RTX 4070 Super, at 1440p with FSR 2 in performance mode, so the test would lean on the CPU rather than the graphics card.
During the opening movie, CPU performance fell by about 40%. In ordinary scenes the loss was about 20%. The hit is uneven: in the crowded village, where the crowd's AI sets the limit, the gap narrows, and in empty corridors the protection shows up again.
REFramework still conflicted with Enigma on that build, so camera and graphics mods stayed in doubt. Capcom did not answer the Digital Foundry piece separately.
The measurement is straightforward. The new scheme costs frames on the processor, not only on weak PCs, and it makes the frame rate less even across Leon's campaign.
