A Mesa fix lifted Cyberpunk 2077 on an eGPU by more than 80 percent

Hans-Kristian Arntzen found a bug in the Mesa driver: with several GPUs, the external card's local memory was wrongly treated as low-latency for the integrated graphics as well. Resources were assigned badly, and eGPU setups sagged.

After the fix, Cyberpunk 2077 gained more than 80 percent in tests. The change is already in the Mesa code and will arrive in a coming release. It covers systems with integrated graphics and an external card over USB4 or Thunderbolt.

Arntzen writes that the bug hit more than this game. Other Vulkan titles can see a similar gain. Machines with a single graphics card are unaffected.

For Linux setups with a dock, it is one of the most visible jumps that does not require new hardware.
