On PS5 Pro, Crimson Desert has three modes, and crowds drop frames
Digital Foundry spent about 20 hours with Crimson Desert on PlayStation 5 Pro. Ray tracing stays on in all three modes: performance targets 60 frames at an internal 1080p, balanced targets 40 frames at 1440p on 120 Hz screens, and quality targets 30 frames at full 4K. With PSSR and VRR, and without a hard v-sync, performance often sits above 60.
In large cities, when guards converge, and in fights with swarms of giant cyborg insects on complex terrain, performance briefly fell to about 30. Quality and balanced held their targets more steadily in those moments. Controls at 30 frames were called heavy, and complex edges shimmered from the upscaler. The studio promised a newer PSSR 2 profile by launch.
The praise covers water, light through volumetric clouds, displacement on the landscape and shadows from thick smoke. This text dates the release to 20 March 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Mac. A look at base PS5 and Series X/S is promised later.
