The Chimera fight in Phantom Liberty took two years to build
On CD Projekt's AnsweRED podcast, Gabe Amatangelo and Igor Sarzyński broke down the fight with the Chimera, a spider-tank in the spirit of Ghost in the Shell that V and President Myers meet at the start of Phantom Liberty inside the Barghest facility.
Amatangelo calls the scene a point where gameplay, story, graphics, and the world meet. The tank was supposed to terrify with its weapons, and there were too many parts to balance: sometimes the fight leaned too far into combat, sometimes into narrative, sometimes into art. Expansion art director Paweł Milniczuk says the polish took two years and that the machine went through four iterations, with changes to equipment and weapons. Sarzyński considers the Chimera one of the most expensive art objects he has made.
A scene that takes one act in the game took years in production. The podcast is about that hidden cost of Dogtown's first fight.
