Sasko says the expansion's success does not erase the launch
On the third anniversary of Phantom Liberty, Paweł Sasko summed it up in a post. The main lesson of Cyberpunk 2077, for him, is that technique deserves the same attention as characters, quests, and the world. A strong idea does not land if the build will not let you live it.
The second point is harder. The expansion does not cancel the failed launch, and Sasko does not want to tell the studio's story as if the DLC erased the mistakes. The path, failure included, made the team stronger, he says.
The expansion itself made forks more visible. Departments stopped handing tasks down a chain and worked together, and scenes were assigned an emotion in advance. Patch 2.0 arrived beside it: perks, implants, police, vehicle combat, and AI.
He singles out The Game Awards 2023 and the award for best ongoing game, when he walked on stage with Gabe Amatangelo. In that moment he was thinking of the developers who stayed with the game, and of the players who stayed, came back, or gave it a second chance.
