Capcom says the West accepts Dragon's Dogma 2's difficulty more readily
Producer Naoto Oyama and game director Kento Kinoshita told Automaton that players in Japan and the rest of Asia read Dragon's Dogma 2 differently from players in the West. Kinoshita previously worked on the original Dark Arisen expansion.
Oyama says Western players are more willing to treat a hard, grounded adventure as the point. Limits such as a stingy fast-travel system often land there as part of the journey. In Japan and other Asian countries the same obstacles were more often felt as irritation caused by the game itself, and Capcom received many requests to make travel more comfortable.
The answer was the Eternal Ferrystone, an item that allows fast travel without a use limit. The older rules of the world were left in place. Oyama describes the move as adding a choice without breaking the original RPG idea, and Kinoshita backed that line. The producer says players in different regions responded well.
Dark Arisen sits in the same conversation: an expansion Capcom is using to answer feedback without throwing out the foundation. It is scheduled for 9 October 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam.
