A bench clip split players comparing E-Day with Gears 2
The creator Michael Does Life posted a comparison of a wooden bench in Gears of War: E-Day and in 2008’s Gears of War 2. In Epic’s Xbox 360 game, a rifle burst turns the boards into splinters. In the new game the bullets leave sparks and marks, and the bench stays put.
He treated that as a weak spot after seven years of development. Some replies agreed: with ray tracing on Unreal Engine 5, small-object physics is often simplified. The $70 standard price and the long development were brought up too, along with the missing chainsaw duels and meat shield.
Others called the comparison a nitpick. Street furniture does not decide a firefight, and E-Day’s destruction is concentrated on cover and key spots. Skipping every splinter, in that view, leaves console power for lighting and detail.
